Lighting For Richmond Park Athletics Stadium
Specialist lighting contractor, Altitude Services, has won the contract to provide new lighting at the Richmond Park Athletics Stadium in Ashton-under-Lyne.
This marks a major development for this Lancashire-based lighting company, and it highlights the importance of these kinds of facilities for local communities.
An Important Milestone For Altitude Services
Altitude Services’ Director explains the importance of winning this contract:
“This is our first major sports lighting contract, and it’s exactly the kind of high profile work we welcome. It is the perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate our capabilities, but also to emphasise the important social value of this work.”

At a time when many local leisure and sports facilities are facing cut-backs in funding, and closure, it is vital that those facilities that are still providing services to local communities can continue to do so as effectively as possible.
“Richmond Park has an athletics track and various activity areas. It was also the location for Manchester’s first dedicated cycle circuit, originally opened in 2010. Obviously upkeep and improvements to the stadium are important because it has immense value as a local sports facility.”
The stadium is home to Curzon Ashton Football Club and the East Cheshire Harriers.
Added Social Value
The improvement works to Richmond Park Athletics Stadium include replacing its existing lighting columns and foundations with eight new hinged masts and floodlights.
As part of the contract, Altitude Services will test and commission all the work, and provide a full lighting survey.
In addition, the company will provide added social value by arranging a formal switch-on event, having completed the improvement works.
The aim is to mark these improvements and to help raise the profile of the stadium by inviting local press to the switch-on event.
“We want more local people to get involved with the stadium and to be able to benefit from the various facilities it offers. It’s good for their health, and for the community as a whole.”
In keeping with this local focus, Altitude Services aims to use local businesses as suppliers for sundry items during the works.
It also wants to leave a legacy of its own, and with this in mind, it is offering to sponsorship worth £400 to a local athletics team, who will make use of the improved facilities at the stadium.
“We want to be able to offer something more than simply our services. This is our way of giving something extra to the community, while also providing improvements to the stadium at its heart.”
